Days/Times for Listening Sessions are as follows:
- Monday, November 4, 1:00-2:30 PM: Needs, challenges and opportunities for data generation including genomics, imaging, and bioinformatics
- Thursday, November 7, 9:00-10:30 AM: Data sciences needs, challenges and opportunities in the molecular biosciences disciplines (including genomics, metabolomics and other ‘omics)
- Friday, November 8, 3:00-4:30 PM: Data sciences needs, challenges and opportunities in the biomedical and health sciences disciplines
- Tuesday, November 12, 10:00-11:30 AM: Data sciences needs, challenges and opportunities in the agricultural, ecological and environmental sciences disciplines
As a reminder, themes that have come up in college leadership meetings are:
- As the cost of DNA sequencing continues to drop, the importance of genomic data and bioinformatics is going to impact a widening circle of research topics.
- At the same time, the scale and diversity of other kinds of big data (environmental, GIS, phenotypic, metabolomics and other ‘omics, health records, etc) that researchers want to integrate into their research, in addition to genomics, is expanding even faster.
- Across all disciplinary areas, there is a strong need for expertise, services and training that can assist researchers in managing and, especially, integrating these diverse big data sets to produce meaningful insights.
- The Center needs mechanisms for focusing its efforts and resources, and for partnering across campus, so that it can maximize its impact and value to the community in the above areas.
